Supply Chain Design

The supply chain for any business is not a simple, linear chain of activities; it is a dynamic network of integrated processes, technology, and people. Supply chain management can be an engine for sustainable growth; strategic design choices are fundamental to success.

What we do

Our unique OP2MA approach applies design thinking to supply chain management. We create performance breakthroughs by using innovative analytics to target the opportunities that supply chain excellence offers, allowing the business to manage trade-offs, identify opportunities and prioritise actions:
Stage 1
Health Check
OP2MA Health Check
OP2MA Health Check ensures a rapid assessment of how operational performance is driving financial outcomes and qualifies the key priorities for improvement.
Stage 2
Diagnostics
OP2MA Diagnostics
OP2MA Diagnostics identify the necessary changes to process, organisation, technology,
and infrastructure to reset capabilities.
Stage 3
Transformation
OP2MA Transformation
OP2MA Transformation combines data-driven analytics with our extensive experience and
knowhow to develop a targeted action plan to transform operational performance.

Benefits

A revitalised supply chain can deliver:

Sustainability

Many of the resources we rely on are either finite or are constrained by the speed of renewal. Businesses that can create more value from each unit of resource will gain competitive advantage. Actions taken to reduce consumption of raw materials and the resources used in production and distribution activities are fundamental.

What we do

  • Governance – does the business have the necessary support and capability to develop a strong, on-going, sustainability programme?
  • Social Impact: Employees – what approaches are taken to employee management, relations, and engagement?
  • Social Impact: Community – how does the business interact with the local community?
  • Environmental Impacts: Waste Reduction – what is the business doing to reduce waste?
  • Environmental Impacts: Resource Conservation – what is the business doing to conserve resources and recycle materials?
  • Environmental Impacts: Carbon Footprint & Toxics Reduction – what is the business doing to reduce its carbon footprint and reduce its use of toxic materials (including cleaning products)?
  • Environmental Impacts: Product Development & Life Cycle – what is the business doing to minimize the environmental footprint of its products and services?
  • Environmental & Social Impact: Supply Chain & Procurement – how is the business engaging with suppliers to promote sustainability?
Assessing the footprint of products or services, using techniques such as Lifecycle Assessments, can help to build understanding and trigger more diverse thinking. At the very least, this approach will highlight knowledge gaps about the supply chains running through the business.

The outcome of the review is an OP2MA Transformation plan that will build on platforms that foster growing sustainability.

Benefits

The business case for operating on an increasingly sustainable basis is clear and founded on:
  • Reducing costs by eliminating waste, increasing energy efficiency, mitigating compliance requirements
  • Improving customer loyalty
  • Better risk management
  • Stronger employee engagement supporting talent attraction and retention
  • Enhanced supply chain collaboration.

Risk

Managing risk in the supply chain is difficult and time consuming; it can be overlooked until too late. Resilience to disruptive events needs to be built on a rigorous understanding of dependencies and vulnerabilities. Internal ways of working may either mitigate or compound risk in the value chain; a coherent assessment will identify priorities to be addressed with supply chain partners.

What we do

Our OP2MA Risk Diagnostic takes a systematic approach to evaluating macroenvironment, value chain and internal operational risk. It can help form a critical action plan with a focus on key components and situations with limited alternatives. When and where appropriate, we can step change capability with the use of advanced analytics from our AI partner in risk management.
Risks can compound and create significant disruption to supply chain operations. Combining the OP2MA Process Diagnostic allows the interaction of internal and external risks to be comprehensively assessed.

Benefits

Now more than ever, supply chain risk management is essential to preventing issues and mitigating losses when events do occur. Benefits include:
  • Maintaining operations when issues arise
  • Ability to respond to unexpected events
  • Early detection of risk through effective communication
  • Stimulating good practice across the supply chain.
